Cashmere care
To keep the valuable characteristics of your cashmere garment intact over time, we would like to share with you some basic secrets.
Let it rest for at least 24 hours
First of all, it is essential TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CASHMERE GARMENT. Avoid wearing it for consecutive days and, if possible, let it rest for at least 24 hours before reusing it. This practice helps to preserve its softness and resistance.
Every evening, when you take off the jumper you have worn during the day, take a moment to care for it. Use a gentle 'velvet brush' to chase away the pilling that has formed due to normal rubbing. This gesture will not only improve the appearance of the garment, it will also refresh it, ensuring a flawless appearance.
By following these simple steps, your cashmere garment will always look AS NEW! The loving care you give it will help keep it elegant and perfect for a long time, giving you the joy of wearing a garment with the unmistakable charm of cashmere.
WHAT IS PILLING?
The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn’t listen. She packed her seven versalia, put her initial into the belt and made herself on the way.
Pilling is a phenomenon that occurs on wool or cashmere sweaters, manifesting itself through the formation of small dots on the surface of the fabric after use. It is important to emphasise that pilling is not necessarily related to the quality of the garment itself and is a common characteristic of wool or cashmere garments.
These pellets form mainly due to rubbing, so it is easy to find them in underarm areas or after wearing a coat with inner labels or accessories that rub directly on the cashmere fabric.
However, if your cashmere garment is of good quality, there is a positive note: pilling is easily removed using a velvet brush or a pilling comb. This is a sign of a well-made garment with quality fibres.
In contrast, garments made with synthetic fibres may show harder and more diffuse pilling over the entire surface of the garment, not just in the rubbing areas, and removal may be more difficult.
HOW TO WASH A CASHMERE GARMENT
ATTENTION it takes a moment for it to become felted and at that point you can no longer recover it.
Let's begin
-
Turn the jumper inside out to protect the outer surface.
-
Fill a basin with lukewarm (not hot) water at a maximum temperature of 30°C.
-
Add a drop of neutral detergent suitable for wool garments or a few drops of baby shampoo to the water.
-
Gently immerse the garment in the basin and massage it in carefully for a few minutes, avoiding vigorous twisting or rubbing.
-
Rinse the jumper several times with clean water, taking care not to leave it in the water for a long time to avoid felting the fabric.
-
Gently remove most of the water by squeezing the garment in your hands.
-
Wrap the jumper in a towel to absorb excess water.
-
Lay the towel with the jumper on top on a drying rack in a horizontal position. Be sure to keep the jumper in its original shape, including the sleeves, by placing it flat on the towel.
IMPORTANT: Avoid hanging knitted garments when wet. Knitwear becomes heavy in the presence of water and may stretch. Even when the jumper is dry, hanging it for a long time may cause it to unravel or stretch.
Instead, to preserve the original shape of your jumpers, lay them flat on a towel after washing. This way, the garment will retain its structure and remain in perfect condition. Remember, proper care and attention will ensure a long life and flawless appearance of your precious knitted garments.
IMPORTANT: Keep your clothesline away from heat sources and direct sunlight, as it may cause colour changes on your garments.
By keeping your clothesline in a cool, shady area, you can preserve the colour integrity of your garments, ensuring that they remain beautiful and vivid over time. The loving care you give your garments will help keep them in perfect condition and ready to wear with pride on any occasion.
CAN CASHMERE GARMENTS BE WASHED IN THE WASHING MACHINE?
Yes, if you have a up to date washing machine with a good wool specific program. Two important things: Use cold water and set your washing machine to short cycles such as delicate or woolen garments.
Let's begin
-
Always turn the jumper inside out. This way, you will protect the outer surface during washing.
-
If you are washing a plaid or scarf, it is preferable to place them in an underwear net to prevent them from flapping and getting damaged during the washing cycle.
-
Exclude the spin cycle. Avoid spinning your knitted garments to prevent damage and deformation.
-
Use little detergent. A small amount of detergent is sufficient to effectively clean your knitted garments.
-
At the end of the wash cycle, set the spin cycle to 400 rpm and run the programme for 1 minute. Do not leave, but wait until the minute has elapsed before stopping the spin cycle. A long time in the spin cycle could cause the garment to felt.
GRANDMA'S SECRET
Put a tablespoon of mild bleach when washing your cashmere garment, either in the washing machine soap tray or in the basin, before putting the jumper on. A little gentle bleach will not ruin the fibre, but it will hygienise the garment.
HOW TO IRON CASHMERE
If properly washed, dried and stored, cashmere does not tend to wrinkle and can generally be worn without ironing. However, we all know that it is sometimes necessary to remove creases and a little steam helps to perfect the job.
Let's begin
-
-
Turn the garment right side out and place it on the ironing board, trying to restore its original shape with your hands: arrange the neck, shoulders, ruffle, sleeves, and so on.
-
When you have arranged everything, blow steam all over the garment. Make sure not to touch it with the iron, as the marks from the clothesline will disappear thanks to the steam.
-
Pay attention to the pressure of the hot iron on the collar, seams, buttons or zips, as it may also leave marks on parts of the jumper that are not visible.
-
After heating the whole garment with steam, remove the iron and shape the collar, shoulders and ruffle with your hands. The garment will assume the right shape when it has cooled completely.
-
If you need to fix the shape well, you can protect the garment with a cotton cloth and place the iron on the parts that are most difficult to fix.
-
SEASON CHANGE
If the time has come to store your cashmere garment for the summer, after washing it (following our instructions), store it in a polythene bag and put it in the closet.
When the summer heat arrives, put moth protection in the closet (not in direct contact with the garment) ... moths loves cashmere, like us!!!
ATTENTION never put the cashmere garments in the closet without having washed them first!! If there is a slight odor on the garment, they will be truly irresistible to moths.
